Baptism

Baptism is a sacrament of the United Methodist Church. We believe baptism is an outward sign of God’s grace and love for the individual, and it is an act of the community, as the congregation vows to support persons as their grow the Christian faith. As a sacrament, we consider a person's baptism wholly complete no matter the age when it was received, nor the circumstances in which it occurred. Due to this theological perspective, we do not rebaptize persons.

For infant and children's baptisms, families are encouraged to attend worship services regularly before requesting a baptism to make sure that National UMC is a good fit for their families.

To request an infant or child baptism, parents should complete the online baptism request form below. Parents will arrange to meet with Rev. Craswell, our Minister of Discipleship, to discuss the meaning of baptism, talk through the service, and explore the ways that National UMC can best support the family in their faith as we live out the baptismal vows together.

The morning of the baptism, families may reserve seats for extended family members and friends. Photographs may be taken before and after the worship service in the sanctuary. Worship services are live-streamed, so persons who cannot attend will be able to watch the service at home.

To request an adult baptism, please contact Rev. Bryant M. Oskvig.
