St. Luke’s Mission Center Task Force

During its September 2023 meeting, the NUMC Church Council approved the creation of the St. Luke’s Mission Center Task Force to investigate and provide actionable recommendations to the Council on ways to better utilize the Center’s facilities. The Mission Center is (and was historically since it became one of NUMC's campuses) a hub of NUMC’s service ministries. The Center currently houses Campus Kitchen and Shalom Place.

In the past, it has offered office space for Friendship Place, operated a men’s homeless shelter, and provided temporary housing for migrants sent here by governors from border states (Los Companeros Ministry). It has rented space for non-profit organizations that needed ample space to conduct business, convene, or hold live performance practices.

The Task Force will provide actionable recommendations that the Church Council and other standing committees and ministries can take up to 1) help address the needs of DC residents (particularly Ward 3 residents),  2) engage with more individuals and organizations beyond NUMC’s church doors, and 3) increase the revenue stream for the church. The third point is salient to the growth and vitality of the church and aligns with the work that the Sustainability Task Force is doing. The St. Luke’s Mission Center Task Force members include representatives from the Trustees, the Service/Outreach Ministry, and congregations from the MM and Wesley campuses.

The Task Force seeks your ideas, opinions, experiences, and perspectives.
