Serving Opportunities
Holiday Food Volunteer Opportunity
The holiday season is fast approaching and Campus Kitchen, the church's food ministry, is getting ready. Chef Anthony is planning on filling 100 grocery bags for two of our partners, Community UMC and Impact Fellowship, which help their neighbors who are poor, hungry or un-housed, with meals and food supplies. But we need YOUR help. Please shop our Amazon wishlist to supply the Thanksgiving fixings and purchase cornbread mix, canned vegetables, cranberry sauce, and gravy. Food donations you purchased at the grocery store also gladly welcomed and can be dropped off at the Campus Kitchen collection bin in the main foyer of the National UMC.
If using the wishlist, please select the registry address (the church, 3401 Nebraska Ave.) for delivery.

Meals for AU Ministry
Our Ministry of American University students is flourishing! Every Sunday evening, about 15 students gather at the AU Lounge for fellowship and food. You can be a part of this growing ministry by providing dinner for these energetic and wonderful college kids. Prepare a meal for the students including a main course, salad or veggies, and a dessert. Details Here
Grate patrol
National UMC supports the Salvation Army Grate Patrol which delivers food to the hungry across the District of Columbia every night. We welcome volunteers for this vital ministry. We make sandwiches and pack lunches on the fourth or fifth Sunday of the month, in the Wesley Fellowship Hall after the worship service and in the Metropolitan Vestry between services. The next day, volunteers load up the Grate Patrol van and deliver food and water to those in need. Volunteers between the ages of 13 to 17 years old must volunteer with a parent. Volunteer for the Van work here: HERE
Grate Patrol Sundays in 2024 are on the last Sunday of the month.
Food Ministry at National UMC - Helping our neighbors in DC.
There are a number of food recovery and food delivery opportunities with our food ministry called Campus Kitchen DC. We need volunteers to pick up bread, cookies, and baked goods from Levain Bakery in Georgetown Fridays. There are also opportunities to assist the twice-a-month food pantry at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Chevy Chase DC and the weekly Water Ministry at St. Columba's Episcopal Church. Other opportunities are added frequently so check our sign up for new tasks. Please click HERE.
